The Capital Area Tibetan Association (CATA) considers teaching young Tibetans to read and write Tibetan as an effective way of imparting young Tibetans in the area their lingustic and cultural identity.  Under the leadership and organization of CATA's Parent Association young Tibetans gather every weekend for couple of hours at local Community Center or Church facilities to study Tibetan language, cultural songs and dances, and other aspects of Tibetan heritage. The weekend Tibetan School program is a great way for Tibetans interact with other young Tibetans, develop friendship, and start the process of becoming an active and responsible member of the community.  The school offers language and musical classes without any fees and all the teachers and instructors are volunteers.
