CATA hosts Talk by Nyima Lhamo la & Dorjee Tseten la
CATA would like to thank Students for a Free Tibet, Nyima Lhamo la (niece of the late Tenzin Delek Rinpoche), and Dorjee Tseten la (Chitue/Member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile and SFT Asia Director) for participating in a discussion and dinner on Thursday, July 13th.
Members of the CATA community listened intently as Nyima Lhamo la provided a very moving, personal account of the circumstances surrounding the death of her late uncle, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, a highly respected community leader and Tibetan rights advocate. Many in the audience were moved to tears as she recounted learning about Rinpoche’s sudden demise while he was under unjust imprisonment by the Chinese government.
Nyima Lhamo la discussed her own escape from Tibet in 2016 and her goal of sharing Rinpoche’s case with the international community. Her current campaign brings worldwide attention to the plight of Tibetan political prisoners currently being unjustly detained.
MP Dorjee Tseten la followed with an insightful speech about the current Tibetan movement and the need for continued unity, solidarity, and effort by all Tibetans.
Attendees also observed a minute of silence for the recent passing of Nobel laureate and prominent Chinese democracy advocate, Liu Xiaobo.
Our thanks to all the members who attended and participated in the discussion.
A special thank you to Khenpo Samdrup la for allowing CATA to host the event at DDSC. Our most sincere gratitude.
