Tibetan Uprising Day in Washington, DC

Tibetans and Tibet supporters from DC, Virginia, and Maryland gathered at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC yesterday to commemorate the 59th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising.

The rally was co-organized by RCATYC and CATA and included participants from as far away as the Tibetan community in Charlottesville, Virginia.

As the large crowd stood in front of the Chinese Embassy, Tibetan flags were waved, patriotic songs were sung, and slogans were shouted. Statements from the Central Tibetan Administration, the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi were read at the event. Speakers included members of RCATYC, ICT, CATA, and the Tibetan community in Maryland.

The demonstrators then marched for two hours from the Chinese Embassy in NW DC, through the bustling crowds of Georgetown, to their final destination in front of the White House. At the White House, participants continued peacefully chanting slogans and urged the US government to "speak up for Tibet". The younger generation of Tibetans eagerly passed out informational pamphlets about Tibet to the many tourists and onlookers.

CATA would like to thank all the attendees for their participation in the rally. It was a success because of the immense energy, passion, and spirit that you brought to the event.

Free Tibet! Bhod Gyalo!!!
